Week 3, reinforcement

Among the things we do, the most solid is training of “Hope” group, formed by women (“mamas”) from Msitu Wa Tembo. Their motivation and aim to change the health situation among their relatives and neighbors is huge, and their energy loads our cells. We prepare seminars on main health topics, and focus on prevention strategies. Discussing with them is always interesting and then, they are in charge of spread the word to the five areas of Msitu Wa Tembo.

As we said in the last post (sorry for long wait…), on 5^th of July we set up the conditions of July and August seminars, together with the ten women from the group.

  

In this week, Isa was in charge of maternal health care seminar, that they had demanded months ago. Therefore, there was high attendance and expectation. Isa will tell us more soon. Here, just a picture.

  

 

During this third week, three new volunteers plus one of the local workers joined the team. They adapted so quickly, and soon they were contributing their vision and ideas. It has been time of thinking and doing some changes, so having new ideas was great.

Luis, Javier Miranda and Alejandro Parra are medical students from University of Alcalá, while Gasto has experience working with micro-business after his university studies. Welcome to the team!

  

In their first week, Alejandro got to know the local dispensary, working together with the doctor, nurse, and also Junior (one of the workers for TATU, who spends some time in our project as well); while Javier, Gasto (and also Luis) took over the recruitment for the caravan that would happen on following Saturday. Apart from advertisement, cases that need home based care were identified in Majengo area. At the same time, I did the same in area B. Walking around under the sun is tough, but people were very thankful and enthusiastic with our idea of bringing free primary health care for one day. Therefore, we had always a big smile at the end of the day.
