Medical caravan and home based care visits!

Hello everyone again!

It's about time, but we have been very busy!
After three weeks of hard work,  we  have successfully performed our two objectives: medical caravan and home based care visits with the doctor.
We are looking forward to share with you our experience.

The medical caravan took place on Saturday 20 June at Msitu's dispensary. After a long week scheduling all the Saturday's details with Pamoja Tunaweza workers ( whose workers were working with us the caravan day) and with the Chairmen of the village; at nine o'clock on Saturday, we began to prepare the dispensary.

At the end of a long day of work we were able to  give diagnosis and drugs to 104 patients from  Msitu and surroundings. Our team consisted of three triages where medical students made a first approximation of the  health condition of the patients, taking their blood pressure, temperature, weight, etc ..; two doctors, whose task was to give the  diagnosis and a pharmacists,  laboratory  and quality survey stations. TATU volunteers also organised  the assistants  between the different places of the caravan structure and supervised the  health seminars offered outiside by Nina Jali's girls (they gave out seminars about malaria, diarrhea, breastfeeding and anemia).

On Tuesday June 23 Ricardo, Tariq and I, along with Veronica and Rose (dispensary workers) and Dr. Tryphone, we toured Msitu wa Tembo in a 4x4, in order to visit with him all chronically ill we have been visiting previous weeks. Thanks to Dr. Tryphone's knowledge we  could give diagnosis and drugs to more than 10 patients and complete another part of our work in the community successfully.

The rest of the week was also intense, but in a different way, it was time to  prepare  reports about all work performed: process all the data from the survey of the caravan, process information of patients, writing clinical cases of the home based care, making job evaluation meetings with Pamoja Tunaweza about the caravan and with the dispensary workers about the home based care ...

And without realizing it, our month  work in  Msitu  has come to an end. We hope that all the work we have done here will serve as a support for the two volunteers who continue  this summer with the work, best force and luck for them!

And exhausted and excited,  Ricardo and I take leave of you, we hope you have enjoyed this wonderful experience through social networks, as much as we  while living it . It has been a pleasure to share it  with you.

But do not lose sight of this blog! More volunteers continue to work this summer, new challenges, new faces and new experiences that we share with you. They will put you up with everything that happens around here.

Big hugs, friends, ASANTE SANA !!!!
MARINA VARA
